Mind, Body & Soul
Maintaining health and promoting independence at home
At any age, it’s important to be active and healthy to maintain mental and physical well-being. If a client is interested in and able to participate in local activities, our care assistants can help them do so and include them in the home care plan. Or a client may want help with basic domestic tasks.
The benefits of physical activity
A healthy, active lifestyle stimulates the brain and helps maintain independence. It can also be entertaining.
- Reduces the risk of developing chronic diseases;
- Helps manage active problems such as high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity and high cholesterol;
- Improves functioning and independence for people with lung disease or arthritis; relieves symptoms of depression and pain; and
- Improves balance and prevents falls.
We promote and encourage our clients to engage in simple, healthy activities such as walking or dancing. Participation in any activity will, of course, depend on the client’s preferences and abilities. As part of your individual home care and support plan, a team member will talk to you about your preferences.
