Multiple Sclerosis (Ms) Care

A diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS) will probably come as a surprise to you. Although it is beneficial for you and your family to understand your symptoms, you may still feel alone and scared.

At Sorted Healthcare, we understand the impact a MS diagnosis can have on your life and the significant changes you need to make. We can offer you and your family home care and support to help you get through this difficult time.

What is multiple sclerosis?

MS affects around 100,000 people in the UK and is the most common disease of the central nervous system (brain, optic nerves and spinal cord) in young adults.

The brain communicates with the body through the central nervous system. MS is an autoimmune disease where the immune system destroys the myelin sheath that protects nerve fibres. This causes the transmissions to become disrupted, slow down or stop altogether.
Common MS symptoms

Depending on which nerves are affected and how severe the damage is, the symptoms will be different for each person. Some people experience symptoms for only a short time, followed by months or even years without symptoms. In others, the symptoms occur more frequently. In most cases, symptoms increase as the nerves degenerate. Sorted Healthcare can provide specialised care tailored to your individual needs, in the comfort of your own home.

Common symptoms include extreme fatigue, dizziness, balance problems, muscle spasms, numbness, difficulty eating and moving arms or legs, bowel and bladder problems, double vision, eye pain or vision problems, memory or other cognitive deficits, and sexual dysfunction.

Support to maintain health

MS treatment tries to ease the progression of the disease and control symptoms. In addition to prescription medications, some treatments and lifestyle adjustments can help with recovery. Sorted Healthcare can help you maintain your quality of life while living in your own home by providing you with well-trained caregivers. Together we will develop a specific home care strategy.
